Tom and Karen Dykstra

We won’t be able to attend Rich’s memorial service, but Karen and I would like to share a few thoughts and memories. We fondly remember Rich as one of the generation of men at Park Lane Church who lived their beliefs in God in their everyday life. They were always there to provide support, love, and encouragement in Sunday school, Cadets, Young Peoples, and as we began to serve in church. These men were true servant leaders who cared so much for their own families and the church as a family. Rich always had a smile and a kind word. I (Tom) especially have vivid memories of his encouragement during one of the Cadet campouts. I will never forget how he noticed how upset I was and took me aside to give me advise on how I could survive playing “kick the can” with all the older boys. It is not the advice I remember, but the Christ like love of seeing a need and stepping in. I (Karen) remember once when Rich was visiting me as an elder after my surgery. Before Rich left, he asked if he would pray with me and our daughter, Ruth. Ruth said “Mommy close your eyes”. This was a memory Rich brought up many times in the years to come. We are sure there will be many memories shared over the next few days. But we also know it is hard to lose a loved one. We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers during this time of loss.
