One time (when we lived in the City and were very young) Donnie and I delivered flyers for a local business and earned 50 cents each. We pooled our money and bought my mom the most hideous gaudy dress pin ever! It was a BIRDS NEST PIN! That's right a birds nest about the size of a small tea cup! It was hideous but at the time we thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. We bought it with love for mom hoping that she would like it as much as we did.

Poor Mom had to wear it out on occasion--the darn thing was huge! But Mom wore it with Pride! It looked like it was a real nest! Like we went out in the yard and shook one down! I'm laughing thinking about it now. I remember it because it was a very special gift for mom--that we bought with money that we earned working--just like the big boys. I was so proud of it all!
