Obituary for Dorothy M. Gorman (Haxel)

Dorothy M, Gorman, nee Haxel, age 77, died in her home in the care of family on Saturday, September 8, 2018. She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Gary) Gorman-Smith, Dawn (Phil) Gorman-Kenny Ret. O.P.P.D., and Deneen Gorman-Gill and grandchildren Matthew, Madison, Bradley, Emma and Scott.

In 1958, Dorothy married the love of her life, Earl Gorman. They were married for 48 years until Earl’s passing in 2007. Family and friends were their passion. They loved to camp and a good road trip. Mostly, they just enjoyed being together. Dorothy was a devoted mother to her daughters. Her greatest wish was that they be strong, independent women, but also to be generous of spirit and kind to others. She loved being a grandmother and was ready with a story to share about her grandchildren with anyone that would listen.

In addition to her role as wife and mother, Dorothy was a dedicated school bus driver for more than 35 years. She was the first to welcome students to a new school day each morning and the one that brought them home safely to their families at the end of each day. Retired since 2006, she would still find herself stopped by a former student who remembered her caring smile as she opened the bus door each morning. She met her closest friends at work, a special group of women who supported each other through laughter and love during the best and worst of times.

Visitation Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 3-8PM at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL.
