Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" DiNicola Holwell (Hennebury)

Elizabeth "Betty" DiNicola Holwell (Hennebury)
Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Hennebury) DiNicola Holwell, age 87 of Irmo, South Carolina, on Monday, April 16, 2018 in Columbia, SC after a brief illness. Beloved wife of the late William (“Bill,” “Nick”) R. DiNicola (1973). Loving mother to Diane “Dee” (John) Henken, Bill (Arlene), Bob (Tania), she was the source of their strength and their biggest fan. Devoted grandmother to six, her little loves, Johnny (Sabrina) Henken, Aubrey Henken, Leah DiNicola, Tony DiNicola, Gina DiNicola, and Nick DiNicola. Dear sister of Daphne (Clarence “Cole”) Coleridge. Loving friend and family member to many, including sister-in-law Ann (nee DiNicola) Swick, and several nieces, nephews, cousins. Preceded in death by her parents, James Alexander and Jennie Louise (nee Andrews) Hennebury, and two brothers, the late Douglas Hennebury and Harold “Hal” (Kay) Hennebury.

Elizabeth was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada on July 16, 1930. She fell in love and married Bill in October of 1954, moving with her life and love to her new country, settling in the Chicago area. Home life was hectic and full of love, raising three children, being a devoted fireman’s wife and adoring mother. Losing Bill tragically at his young age of 42, brought Mom to the most difficult time of her life, coping with his loss while loving and nurturing 3 young children. She persevered and excelled, raising strong, independent adults. She once again found some happiness in 1992, moving back to St. John’s, and marrying longtime friend Eric “Chinny” Holwell, until his death in 2000. Returning to the states in 2003, Betty lived in Pennsylvania for a short while, until settling in South Carolina. She enjoyed time spent with family, the beauty of falling snow, everything about Christmas, watching old movies, listening to music from happy times, and sharing in her kids’ and grandkids’ escapades and accomplishments. She brought joy to many, and will be so greatly missed.

Visitation Sunday, April 22, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave., Orland Park, IL. Interment private at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.
