Aftercare

When you turn to Colonial Chapel Funeral Home & Crematory, you naturally expect us to not only advise you, but also to take care of all the details related to making funeral arrangements for a deceased loved one. However, you might be very surprised to learn that–in addition to  handling the funeral arrangements–we provide each family we serve with exemplary aftercare services. In fact, we're  quite dedicated to assisting you and your family with the many practical and emotional issues which arise after the death of a family member.

What is Aftercare?

It's not always readily apparent; yet when you really stop to think, it's rather obvious: in addition to heartache, the death of a close family member often brings unexpected headaches. Not only are you grieving the death of a loved one (which is a physical, spiritual, intellectual and emotional experience); you are also faced with taking care of all the legalities. And honestly, these legal issues can sometimes be overwhelming. That's why we added aftercare as a standard service for the families we serve.

How Does it Work?

Here's something you should know from the start: there is no charge to your family for our aftercare services. Instead, aftercare is a standard service we offer to all 'our' families. Here's what will happen: approximately a week after we tend to your family member's end-of-life services,  a member of the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home & Crematory staff will call you to schedule a home visit.

When you accept our offer of aftercare, a dedicated aftercare specialist will come to your home to help you to review any outstanding paperwork involving health or life insurance, Social Security, or the Veterans' Administration. She can also assist you with bank, investment or creditor notifications; and help you to make arrangements for any additional professional services you might need (such as those from an attorney, house cleaner, or estate settlement agent).

As our intention is to help you and your family with all the practical assistance you need to rid yourself of any nagging bureaucratic headaches, our dedicated aftercare specialist will be available to you at any time in the months following your loved one's death–at no additional cost to you.

All practical things aside, she can also help you to find the bereavement resources and grief support you need to emotionally come to terms with your loss. While not a licensed grief counselor, our aftercare specialist has the connections necessary to provide you with referrals to professionals in our community who can assist and guide you in your recovery from loss. In short, at any time after the death of your loved one; our dedicated aftercare specialist will act as your ally and advocate. That's what sets Colonial Chapel Funeral Home & Crematory apart from the other funeral homes in our region.
